MAG: SIGUR ROS VALTARI FILM #13

As the Valtari Mystery Film Experiment continues, Sigur Rós have now unveiled the 13th of the series. Directed by Irish artist Clare Langan, the video for "Varðeldur" is absolutely beautiful.

"The film explores the fragility of the human condition, frozen somewhere between life and death. Shot with a high-speed camera, a human figure and water defy the laws of gravity. There is no clear distinction between dream and reality and the space that the film and the music create becomes a submersive world."

MAG: NIKE SB OCTOBER 2012 FOOTWEAR

From: Highsnobiety

The October 2012 pack by Nike SB features both the low and mid silhouettes of the Janoski as well as the Koston. They're two of my favourite sneakers around and this drop doesn't disappoint. I like the coloured outsoles and the obsidian suede on the Eric Koston is sweet. With 5 pieces all together, they're available to purchase now I believe.

MAG: THE WEEKND WICKED GAMES OFFICIAL VIDEO

To be featured in his debut album, The Weeknd has dropped this self-directed video for "Wicked Games" from mixtape number one "House of Balloons" today. It's a song I've loved watching him perform at festivals over the summer, the concluding track of his setlist with an acoustic version. For the album it seems to have gone through a light remastering, as have many of the tracks set to be recorded on the highly anticipated LP "Trilogy", which of course is out on November 13th.

BLOG: WATERSTONES WINTER 2012 CAMPAIGN

From: Creative Review

Proclaiming the pleasures of bookshops in this new ad campaign by Leagas Delaney, UK retailer Waterstones has a lovely series of posters in time for the festive period. Fighting the rise in digital e-books, online shopping and all that, they throw punches with some very good lines, totally on point with our human nature, highlighting the intrinsic joy of discovery found only in a bookshop. It rolls out this week and I like it a lot. Personally I haven't given e-books a look yet, and I have my reasons for taking preference for hard copy publications whether it be books or magazines, so this campaign will no doubt catch my eye on my commute and I shall enjoy it.

BLOG: JOEY ROTH CERAMIC SUBWOOFER

From: Joey Roth

Renowned for using simple materials to express function and aesthetic (ie. perfect design) through its most natural form, Joey Roth has designed this ceramic subwoofer to complete the audio three-piece that boasts deep, warm, powerful sound that is deemed worthy by the most critical in quality. And as for its design, the beauty is quite simply idiot-proof.

Its enclosure is made of stainless steel, porcelain and Baltic birch plywood, using no plastic at all in the system's construction (aside from electricals). Technically, this ornament provides balanced bass that isn't harsh but sufficient to physically send shivers through the room. The custom-made drivers will read every nuance of the high-resolution music to reveal all its rich detail, making this one of the most exceptional of speaker systems. Together the speakers and subwoofer cost $1095, shipping from December 2012. It looks stunning.

MAG: BON IVER BETH/REST OFFICIAL VIDEO

The fourth single off the self-titled second album by Bon Iver, undoubtedly my favourite album of 2011, has had its own official video released today. "Beth/Rest" is given visuals directed by Dan Huiting and Justin Vernon himself, it tells the story of a couple meant for each other, set in a suitably mysterious and magical woodland. It's sweet.

MAG: ELLIE GOULDING FOR ROLLING STONE

I've been enjoying Ellie Goulding's sophomore album "Halcyon" for almost a month now, my thoughts I have already expressed before. This clip is of her performance for Rolling Stone at their studios with a rendition of "Lights", the track released 2 years ago that has only recently blown up in the US charts. What a voice, what a talent.

BLOG: COMMON PROJECTS FALL/WINTER 2012

From: Highsnobiety

A selection from the beautiful collection by New York premium footwear specialists Common Projects. Coming in subtle autumn notes, there's a wide variety of silhouettes available this season, all keeping to a minimal, understated aesthetic as always, speaking only through its form and quality. I don't like all of them, I don't have to either, but some of the shoes hit near-perfect execution in pure simplicity and those I love.

MAG: THE XX CHAINED OFFICIAL VIDEO

The xx appear in this new official video for their track "Chained", having spent two days underwater filming it. Directed by Young Replicant, this video was made with The Creators Project, an organisation that describe themselves as 'a global network dedicated to the celebration of creativity, culture and technology. The high definition slow motion and that bass line sound that the band are renowned for go together oh so well.

MAG: NEW BALANCE 577 FARMER'S MARKET

From: Anchor Division

Flimby Factory in Cumbria, North West England, home of New Balance, celebrates its 30th anniversary in the UK with this special release of the M577 Farmer's Market Pack. Available in two colourways, they're each produced (or 'domestically manufactured' as Flimby proudly state) with leather, English waxed cotton and custom labelling. Very heritage. And presented with these funky pieces of selvage denim jeans and chunky socks, it looks undeniably stylish and wonderfully British.

BLOG: LANA DEL REY RIDE SHORT FILM

Lana Del Rey's new single "Ride" is one of 8 new tracks included on her upgrade album if you like that is out next month. Moving away from her vintage homemade style shoots of previous videos, this short film is professionally shot to Del Rey's beautifully honest and twisted monologue, recorded either side of the song.

There are some really gorgeous visuals in this film that cannot be downplayed and has me drooling. But of course it's the words, the music and the art that is the focus, and to be honest, this girl scares the crap out of me. I love her songs, I love her writing, and as mysterious as it is, I love her fucked up persona. I'm going to watch this video over and over to try and delve into her deeper, to understand or at least interpret her expressions. I'm fascinated.

BLOG: LIVID JEANS NORWAY

Filmed and edited by Kristoffer Dagslott of KD Film, this is a neat short video presenting the philosophy and story behind the work of small-scale Norwegian denim makers, Livid Jeans. I appreciate, admire and share the sentiment that the tight team clearly have in hand-making small batches of premium jeans, using quality selvage denim sourced from America or Japan, together with their expertise in craftsmanship and care for the product. Made one at a time by one person, it's a brand of true dedication, value and passion for goodness.

DIARY: MISCELLANEOUS PHOTOS 9-10.12

Some uncategorised iPhone-ography from the past month or so.

The coffee in the top shot is from a lovely little place "Mozzino" just off Carnaby, a recent favourite when out and about in central. Also, that H&M ad was on my local bus stop, double-sided. Yes, Lana was present in my neighbourhood, sort of, for a good couple of weeks. Sadly she's gone now and the wait for the bus is no longer as enjoyable.

BLOG: ELLIE GOULDING 2ND ALBUM HALCYON

We've been treated to lots of Ellie Goulding lately as she's been preparing for the release of her sophomore album, including the new single, several collaboration songs, Radio 1 Live Lounge and none more so than her iTunes Festival performance last week in London, where she performed many of her new tracks from "Halcyon", which of course comes out in the UK on Monday. Now I ordered the Special Edition package in advance (the result of a combination of impulse and fandom) and as you can see it has arrived at my door. Together with a poster, some signed polaroids, a piece of jewellery and an individually numbered box, was Ellie Goulding's long-awaited second album.

It may only have been a mere day and a half, but I've already listened to this album in its entirety about 12 times, and that's on top of the looped listens of the album sampler on YouTube as well as watching that iTunes gig enough to have memorised every word of her inter-song banter with the crowd. Yes, I'm rather excited that she's finally back after two years, and I'm so pleased (yet unsurprised) at how incredible the new material is.

It's most certainly taken a different direction to her debut material from "Lights", showing matured progress and an enthralling development in her sound that I just love. Her vocals are what made me fall in love with her music in the beginning, but her song-writing on this album, the melodies and the production are just so on point and as a fan I feel exactly how I wanted it to make me feel. You need to buy it.

BLOG: SCARY BEAUTIFUL BY RENE VAN DEN BERG

From: Designboom

'High-toed' not high-heeled, these shoes are worn with the foot pointed vertically down and buckled in place at the ankles, held up at the front in line with the knees. Fucking crazy right? Designed by René Van den Berg, these heels entitled "Scary Beautiful" screw with your mind (and balance). It's bizarre but it's no doubt highly interesting. It's probably safe to say it won't be the new trend to see women wearing these on the high street walking awkwardly, likely towards the toilet perhaps, but there's a lot involved in the design process and conceptual thought present to pose some intriguing questions...
